Background Classes
The player can choose from the five main classes, but they can also select a Background Class based on one of the five factions in the world. Each Background Class represents a different faction and grants unique advantages and disadvantages, further customizing the playstyle of each character. The Background Class doesn’t limit the player to a faction but represents where their character originated, influencing their strengths, weaknesses, and their relationship with the world.
1. Survivor Background (Faction: Survivors)
The Survivor background represents a character who grew up among the remnants of humanity, living in small, tight-knit communities. Survivors are adaptable, resourceful, and focused on keeping themselves and their allies alive in the harsh, post-apocalyptic world.
Advantages:
- Adaptability: Increased resistance to environmental hazards (radiation, toxins, extreme weather).
- Resourcefulness: Can scavenge supplies from fallen enemies or abandoned areas, gaining extra crafting materials and consumables.
- Communal Aid: Receives a minor healing bonus when near allies or in groups, emphasizing teamwork and survival.
- Survivalist Training: Reduced food and water consumption when exploring the wilderness.
Disadvantages:
- Technological Deficiency: Slower learning curve with advanced tech-based items or gadgets, making it harder to fully utilize them.
- Unarmored: Reduced access to high-tier armors compared to other backgrounds; relies more on mobility and resourcefulness than defense.
Unique Passive: Community Resilience: When health drops below a certain threshold, gain a temporary boost to stamina regeneration and damage resistance for a short duration.
2. Deserter Background (Faction: Deserters)
A Deserter background means your character originated from lawless, cutthroat individuals who profit off the destruction of the world. They are skilled in underhanded tactics, ambushes, and making quick, ruthless decisions for survival.
Advantages:
- Scavenger's Instinct: Increased chance to find rare loot from enemies or in hidden caches.
- Ambusher: Deals bonus damage when attacking from stealth or ambushing enemies.
- Black Market Knowledge: Access to exclusive gear and items from hidden merchants (black market), offering illegal or banned tech.
- Brutal Efficiency: Reduced cooldowns on finishers or "fatal" attacks, allowing them to execute weakened enemies faster.
Disadvantages:
- Distrust: Reduced starting reputation with NPCs from other factions, making it harder to gain their trust or access certain missions/areas.
- Reckless Nature: Reduced defense when engaging in prolonged battles or when outnumbered. They’re better suited for quick, decisive fights.
Unique Passive: Dirty Fighter: Critical hits have a chance to apply bleed or poison effects, making even basic attacks dangerous over time.
3. Miner Background (Faction: Miners)
The Miner background represents someone who grew up underground in technologically advanced, self-sufficient settlements. Miners are experts in crafting, technology, and resource management, often prioritizing defense and sustainability over raw power.
Advantages:
- Master Crafter: Significantly increased crafting speed and success rate when creating weapons, armor, or traps. Can repair items without needing a workshop.
- Underground Knowledge: Increased movement speed and stealth in underground or cave-like environments, making them adept at navigating subterranean areas.
- Tech Expertise: Reduced cooldowns for tech-based abilities or gadgets (traps, turrets, drones).
- Defensive Fortifications: Bonus to health and durability of deployable defenses, like barriers or turrets.
Disadvantages:
- Surface Discomfort: Slightly reduced combat effectiveness and slower health regeneration when fighting in open, exposed environments like deserts or plains.
- Fragile Morale: When morale drops (e.g., due to losing companions or being heavily outnumbered), it’s harder to regain composure, leading to debuffs in prolonged battles.
Unique Passive: Underground Tactician: While in enclosed or underground areas, gain increased trap damage, stealth detection, and movement speed.
4. Imperial Background (Faction: Imperials)
The Imperial background reflects a privileged upbringing in the luxurious, well-fortified enclaves of the rich and powerful. Imperials rely on wealth, influence, and superior technology to dominate, often viewing the outside world with disdain.
