In an MMO set in this post-apocalyptic world, the regions would be vast, diverse, and filled with both dangers and opportunities for exploration. Each region reflects the factions’ influence, the remnants of the old world, and the ever-present effects of The Signal. Players would navigate through a wide array of environments, ranging from hazardous ruins to underground fortresses, mutated wastelands, and luxurious, isolated enclaves.

1. The Ruins of Old Metropolis

  • Description: Once a sprawling, futuristic city, Old Metropolis is now a massive, crumbling wasteland of towering skyscrapers, broken infrastructure, and eerie technological anomalies. It’s the most dangerous and enigmatic region in the world, where The Signal was first detected. The region is defined by chaotic energy fields, gravitational distortions, and bizarre occurrences such as floating debris, sudden shifts in time, and creatures mutated by prolonged exposure to The Signal.
  • Topography and Points of Interest:
    • Signal Core: Deep in the heart of the city lies the Signal Core, a towering, pulsating spire of unknown origin. Rumored to be the origin point of The Signal, the Core is surrounded by powerful energy fields and is heavily guarded by both mutated creatures and Signallist zealots. Only the most skilled players can hope to penetrate its defenses and uncover the mystery of The Signal.
    • Shattered Skyscrapers: These towering ruins are perilous to navigate but are rich in old-world technology and artifacts. Players must use parkour and climbing mechanics to scale these towering remnants, but the dangers of structural collapse and hostile creatures are ever-present.
    • The Echo Zones: Areas of the city that have been profoundly affected by The Signal, where time and reality are fractured. Players might experience time loops, distorted perceptions, or even encounter past or future versions of themselves. These areas provide opportunities for unique quests and puzzles but are notoriously dangerous.
  • Factions:
    • Signallists dominate this area, treating it as their sacred ground. Players aligned with other factions will face constant hostility from them.
    • Survivor Scouts and Miner Teams periodically attempt expeditions into the city, offering quests to explore deeper into the ruins and recover valuable artifacts.
  • Gameplay: Old Metropolis is primarily an endgame zone, designed for high-level players who can handle the extreme challenges it presents. Its dynamic world events, such as Signal surges that temporarily shift the landscape or spawn waves of mutated creatures, provide a sense of unpredictability and urgency. Rare resources, ancient technology, and hidden lore pieces draw players here, making it a focal point for faction conflict and PvP skirmishes.

2. The Wilds

  • Description: The Wilds are expansive regions of mutated forests, overgrown ruins, and untamed wilderness. Nature has reclaimed much of this area, but The Signal’s influence has altered the ecosystem, resulting in monstrous flora and fauna. This region is home to many of the scattered Survivor communities, who have learned to coexist with the dangerous environment.
  • Topography and Points of Interest:
    • The Green Sea: A massive forest that spans for hundreds of miles, filled with towering, bioluminescent trees and strange, mutated wildlife. The deeper players venture, the more dangerous the wildlife becomes, with creatures that can camouflage themselves with their surroundings or use The Signal's energy to power unique abilities.
    • The Broken Spires: Ruined radio towers from the old world dot the landscape, many now overtaken by dense vegetation. These towers are prime locations for scavenging old-world tech, but they are also hotspots for dangerous wildlife and Deserter raiders.
    • Survivor Settlements: Small, fortified towns and villages hidden within the Wilds, built from scavenged materials and old-world ruins. These settlements serve as quest hubs for players aligned with the Survivors. Players can take part in defending these communities from raiders, hunting mutated beasts, or helping to expand their territory.
  • Factions:
    • Survivors dominate the Wilds, offering a mix of community-driven quests and storylines focused on protecting their settlements and reclaiming the land.
    • Deserters operate here as raiders and bandits, frequently attacking settlements and ambushing players.
    • Miners occasionally set up hidden outposts for resource extraction, offering high-risk, high-reward crafting materials.
  • Gameplay: The Wilds provide a mixture of PvE content, crafting, and faction missions. Players can hunt rare creatures for valuable crafting materials, protect or attack Survivor settlements, and uncover hidden old-world technology. The region is also full of environmental hazards, such as unpredictable weather systems influenced by The Signal, poisonous flora, and natural traps like sinkholes or quicksand.

3. The Underground (Miner Networks)

  • Description: Beneath the surface of the world lies an intricate and vast system of tunnels, caverns, and underground cities controlled by the Miners. These subterranean realms are a stark contrast to the surface, filled with advanced technology, booby traps, and heavily fortified settlements. Players will navigate through dark tunnels lit by old-world machinery and innovative Miner-crafted systems, all while avoiding environmental dangers like cave-ins or gas leaks.
  • Topography and Points of Interest:
    • The Forge Cities: Massive underground cities built into natural caverns, powered by geothermal energy and filled with advanced crafting stations. These are bustling hubs of activity where Miners craft weapons, armor, and gadgets from scavenged materials. Players can find rare crafting quests, upgrade their gear, and interact with the Miner Council.
    • The Labyrinth: A maze-like network of tunnels that extends deep beneath the earth, filled with dangerous traps and hostile Miner factions that are more isolationist. The Labyrinth is known for housing rare resources and ancient tech, but its layout constantly shifts due to geological instability and Miner defenses.
    • Geothermal Plants: These old-world power plants have been repurposed by the Miners to power their underground empire. Players can help maintain or defend these plants, as they are often targeted by Deserters looking to seize control of the power source.
  • Factions:
    • Miners control the underground and offer players advanced crafting systems, quests to secure resources, and missions to defend their territory.
    • Deserters occasionally invade the tunnels to steal resources, setting up dynamic PvP scenarios.
    • Imperial Spies may be found here, seeking to gain control of the Miners' technology for their own gain.
  • Gameplay: The Underground is a haven for players focused on crafting and resource gathering, offering access to rare materials and high-level crafting opportunities. Dungeon-like areas filled with traps and Miner-made defenses provide high-risk exploration, while faction-based quests focus on fortifying the underground settlements, researching old-world tech, or repelling Deserter invasions. The tight, enclosed spaces offer a unique combat experience, emphasizing tactical play and environmental awareness.

4. Imperial Enclaves

  • Description: The Imperial Enclaves are luxurious, well-defended regions where the wealthy and powerful live in isolation. These areas are heavily fortified and contain the last remnants of old-world opulence. Each enclave is like a city-state, surrounded by walls of steel and guarded by advanced security systems, automated turrets, and hired mercenaries. The region is visually a stark contrast to the rest of the world, filled with clean, orderly streets, pristine architecture, and functioning technology.
  • Topography and Points of Interest:
    • The Silver Spires: The largest and wealthiest of the Imperial enclaves, home to the ruling aristocracy. This city is filled with gleaming towers and extravagant mansions, with the streets patrolled by elite Imperial guards. Players can navigate political intrigue, trade with wealthy merchants, and take on espionage or assassination quests for various noble houses.
    • The Gardens of Solace: A beautiful, artificially maintained garden filled with rare and exotic plants, guarded by Imperial forces. This area serves as a place for diplomatic meetings between factions but also hides darker secrets, such as secret bunkers where the Imperials conduct experiments on Signal-corrupted lifeforms.
    • The Grand Colosseum: A massive arena where the Imperials host gladiatorial games for entertainment. Players can participate in PvP events, gladiatorial combat, or take on quests to sabotage or support certain fighters.
  • Factions:
    • Imperials dominate this region and provide high-level political and social intrigue quests. Players aligned with other factions will have to navigate the complex web of Imperial politics and diplomacy carefully.
    • Deserters are hired as mercenaries or spies, giving them a foothold in Imperial territory, but they tread carefully as even they fear the wrath of the Imperials.
    • Survivor Diplomats and Miner Traders are occasionally seen here, but they are viewed with suspicion and often manipulated by the ruling aristocrats.
  • Gameplay: The Imperial Enclaves focus heavily on faction reputation, diplomacy, and intrigue. Players can align themselves with different noble houses, take on quests to manipulate political outcomes, and gain access to rare resources or technology through high-level diplomacy. PvP in this region revolves around gladiatorial combat in the Colosseum, while PvE content involves stealth, sabotage, and high-stakes infiltration missions.

5. The Wastelands

  • Description: The Wastelands are desolate, irradiated expanses where the effects of The Signal have warped both the environment and its inhabitants. This region is largely lawless, filled with crumbling military bases, abandoned research facilities, and hostile factions vying for control of its resources. The land is scarred by craters, radiation storms, and mutated creatures that make it one of the most dangerous places to explore.
  • Topography and Points of Interest:
    • The Iron Fields: A vast plain filled with the rusting husks of old-world tanks, planes, and military equipment. The Iron Fields are littered with dangerous anomalies, such as gravitational vortices and invisible energy fields that can tear players apart if they aren't careful. Players come here to salvage valuable resources but must contend with hostile factions and environmental hazards.
    • The Signal Storm: A massive, roaming storm of electrical energy and radioactive particles that moves across the Wastelands unpredictably. Entering the storm offers players a chance to find rare artifacts and resources, but the storm is deadly, and only those prepared for extreme conditions can survive.
    • Deserter Fortresses: Massive, heavily fortified strongholds built from salvaged materials, where the Deserters hold court. These fortresses are filled with black-market traders, weapon smugglers, and mercenaries, offering quests that range from raiding other factions to hunting down bounty targets.
  • Factions:
    • Deserters are the dominant faction in the Wastelands, offering quests focused on survival, scavenging, and raiding other factions.
    • Signallist Raiders roam the Wastelands, attacking anyone they encounter and spreading the influence of The Signal.
    • Survivor and Miner Outposts exist on the fringes, trying to establish a foothold in the harsh landscape but are frequently under threat from Deserter raids.
  • Gameplay: The Wastelands are designed for high-risk, high-reward gameplay, with players scavenging for valuable resources in one of the most hostile environments in the game. PvP is rampant here, as Deserter players can attack others for loot. Environmental hazards such as radiation storms, toxic clouds, and unstable terrain make exploration treacherous.
